A Tale of Two Metals

Brad Bartram

--

By now, we can all pretty much agree that we live in a pretty odd time. I won’t get into all the ways things are odd, but I will call out our old friends gold and silver. Nothing says it more than this week.

We’ve had some rough times on the futures market for both of our favorite metals. The prices have been depressed and somewhat slow to recover. However the past week has seen both grow considerably:

Silver Spot Price with Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) Overlay

Silver has gone from the low point of around $24.28 up to the current price of $25.53 with a spike hitting the mid-$25.60’s earlier in the day.

Gold Spot Price with Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) Overlay

Gold had a similar movement over the same time from $1714 up to $1757 today. Another healthy jump after a steady period of declines.

All of this was punctuated by serious volume movement among the three top metals — gold, silver, and copper.
